SKL Chapter Retreat

August 7-8, 2020
With COVID-19 being a challenge, the Brothers of Sigma Kappa Lambda found a way to come together to uplift one another, curate a creative space for implementing the work of Alpha, and reinforcing the tenets of brotherhood in a safe manner. Brothers gathered on Friday night under the facilitation of Bro. Tyler Kelley to engage in questions that challenged who we, what brothers know about each other, and how we navigate the world. The fellowship took place at Switchyard Park, which gave brothers a chance to gather safely and responsibly.

On Saturday, brothers started the day with Breakfast with the Bruhs, which provided an opportunity to over a meal and reflect on the previous day. The day commenced with a discussion of the chapter vision and mission lead by Bro. Samuel Young, II. Bro. James Sanders and Bro. Kelley each lead engagement activities that allowed the brothers to learn how to communicate with each other, compete in random knowledge (Bro. Kwan Wallace won the trivia challenge), and learn leadership styles for best practices. The afternoon consisted of training, planning sessions, and other engagement to continue the mission of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

With a bright year ahead even in the midst of the challenging times, brothers of the Sigma Kappa Lambda Chapter have shown through this retreat that they are committed to the work of Alpha, and are seeking innovative ways to answer the call for engagement through COVID, social justice, and civic responsibility. The retreat developed our leaders, edified our brotherhood and scholarly excellence, while simultaneously planning with our community in mind.
