Collaboration at its Finest: The Cannon-Dozier Project

Alcohol Awareness Program

The Brothers of the Sigma Kappa Lambda chapter in partnership with the Gamma Eta, Sigma Phi, Theta Xi, Zeta Rho, and Alpha Theta chapters organized an alcohol awareness program honoring the lives of Brothers Adrian Cannon and Julius Dozier who were tragically taken from this life at the fault of a drunk driver. The Cannon-Dozier project, which is named in honor of these fallen brothers is an initiative spearheaded in the South, which seeks to educate the community on alcohol awareness and related statistics. This collaborative project with both collegiate and alumni brothers was an open forum with case study scenarios in the areas of Title IX (lead by Indiana District Director, Brother Dr. D’Angelo Taylor and Brother Folab Odekunle (Gamma Eta)), Campus Life (lead by Brother Kwan Wallace and Brother Diamonde (Zeta Rho)), Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (Lead by Brother Ernest Evans), and Mental Health (lead by Brother Michael Whiteside, Brother Assistant Regional Vice President, Cartier Stewart (Theta Xi), and Brother Assistant Executive Director, Caymen Woods (Alpha Theta)). The sessions were 15-minute rotations that offered engaging dialogue with community members. The highlight of the event was having the family of Brother Julius Dozier present. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl and Leona Dozier, his brother, Brother Tre Dozier, as well as his cousin, Dr. Gloria Howell, attended the session and shared kind remarks about the work being done in the name of their relative.
